Keywords:power meter? DWDM network? optical channel checker?

JDSU has developed what it claims to be the smallest and lightest channel checker for DWDM networks that offers a low-cost alternative to optical spectrum analyzers.

The OCC-56 Smart Optical Channel Checker, developed for DWDM network operators, system installers and maintenance and surveillance teams, is available in C-band or L-band models. The power meter is specifically designed for DWDM system installation and upgrades, channel routing verification in ROADM networks and troubleshooting DWDM systems.

The OCC-56 is compatible with the JDSU TLS-55 tunable laser source designed for channel routing applications such as wavelength tracking in ROADM networks. Together, the OCC-56 and TLS-55 provide a compact and economical field solution for wavelength connectivity testing at the optical layer and verification of ROADM functionality.

The OCC-56 includes support for 50-, 100- or 200GHz channel spacing (according to ITU-T). It features unlimited result storage capacity (on external thumb drive), an easy-to-read tabular display, and extended battery lifetime (using standard and rechargeable AA batteries) and weighs approximately 500g.
