ROHM has unveiled what it claims to be the compact high-performance USB charge protection IC to protect battery driven devices from damage due to excessive current or voltage surges during USB charging.

The BD6040GUL features improved safety design and integrates high performance protection circuits into a 1.6mm x 1.6mm ultra-compact CSP that reduces mounting area by 30 percent over conventional products. A current consumption of 45?A makes it suitable for battery charging via USB or adapter for mobile phones, portable audio players, IC recorders, c, and handheld gaming devices.

The device offers low ON-resistance FET of 125m?, 28V overvoltage lockout, undervoltage lockout, 1.2A overcurrent protection, 2ms startup delay, and temperature protection.

Sample shipments began October with mass production scheduled for December. Sample price is at $1.40 per unit.
