Zilog debuts 1.8V flash MCU

Zilog announced its first 1.8V low power, 8bit embedded flash MCU with extended peripherals.

Designated the Z8 Encore! XP F1680 series, the single chip is based on Zilog's eZ8 CPU core. It provides customers a rich set of analog and digital peripherals, multiple flash memory configurations up to 24Kbyte and a low BOM. Applications include capacitive and resistive sensing, touch screen functionality, gas and fire detection, security systems and portable medical and instrumentation.

The F1680 supports a 1.8V to 3.6V operating voltage, with low ACTIVE, HALT and STOP mode currents that provide several other power savings options. The MCU features an 8-channel SAR ADC with a conversion time of 4.9?ms, and an on-chip temperature sensor that enables designers to measure the temperature on the die to an accuracy of approximately 7C over a range of -40C to 105C or 1.5C accuracy over the range of 20C to 30C.

The F1680 supports up to 24Kbyte of flash memory, up to 2Kbyte of register RAM and 1Kbyte of program RAM. The F1680 is also loaded with up to four 16bit reloadable timers that can be used for timing, event counting or generation of pulse-width modulation (PWM) signals. The F1680's 11MHz Internal Precision Oscillator (IPO) records an accuracy of 4 percent over temperature and voltage and is designed for use with external components. The MCU also features two comparators, a programmable LVD and an integrated intelligent peripheral set including SPI and I?C interfaces as well as two UARTs with support for LIN 2.0.

The F1680 series also comes with a single-pin, on-chip debugger (OCD).

The Z8 Encore! XP F1680 series is supported by Zilog's Developer's Studio IDE with free ANSI C-Complier.

Pricing ranges from $1.90 to $2.32 for 1,000-unit quantities. The device is available now.
