Audio cores come with Dolby Digital encoders

Tensilica Inc. has beefed up its Xtensa HiFi 2 audio engine codec library with the addition of the Dolby Digital Consumer Encoder (DDCE) and Dolby Digital Compatible Output (DDCO) 5.1-channel encoders. The solutions enable manufacturers to design consumer devices including Blu-ray disc players, HD DVD players, portable devices and camcorders, which support Dolby 5.1-channel surround sound as well as next-generation HD video technologies.
Tensilica's highly efficient Dolby Digital 5.1-channel encoders are optimized for low-power operation, requiring just 60MHz to encode at 48kHz, 640KBps. This reduces the overall power demands of the audio SoC, resulting in lower cooling costs through less expensive packaging, heatsinking and elimination of noisy fans, said Tensilica.
The Dolby Digital Plus 5.1-channel encoder is available for shipment now to all Dolby-approved licensees of Tensilica's Diamond Standard 330HiFi or the Xtensa HiFi 2 Audio Engine.
