Maxim Integrated Products has released the MAX3540, a highly integrated, single-conversion TV tuner for ATSC and NTSC applications.

The device meets the sensitivity and adjacent-channel guidelines specified by ATSC Recommended Practice A/74, while consuming only 760mW. To achieve such RF performance, the tuner integrates a tracking filter and high-linearity front-end. It also reduces power consumption by eliminating the second frequency conversion used in many other silicon tuners.

As a single-conversion tuner, the MAX3540 requires only a single SAW filter. Incorporating both RF and IF AGC amplifiers, the device is suitable for TVs, STBs and USB memory sticks.

The MAX3540 covers the full 54MHz to 860MHz frequency range, providing a standard 44MHz IF output, which is compatible with almost all existing ATSC and NTSC demodulators. The tuner operates from a single 3.3V supply and is fully specified over 0C to 85C temperature range.

The MAX3540 is available in a 7mm x 7mm, 48-pin flip-chip package. Pricing starts at $5.90 (1000-up, FOB USA). An evaluation kit is available to speed designs.
