SiP21301

Vishay Intertechnology Inc. has launched a LDO controller with adjustable and fixed output voltage options. The SiP21301 uses external N-channel MOSFETs to provide low dropout voltages of under 50mV at very high currents, up to 7A, with 80 percent efficiency.

The device is optimized for driving N-channel MOSFETs to power FPGAs, ASICs, and ASSPs in game consoles, STBs, LCD TVs, and networking equipment. Working with an external N-channel MOSFET with a separate supply voltage, the SiP21301 allows designers to choose the FET with the on-resistance, drop-out voltage, output current, and power dissipation ratings that suit their applications, operating from 2.5V down 0.65V at up to 7A. The 80 percent efficiency of the SiP21301 solution helps to reduce energy consumption in products while simplifying the design of DC/DC converters.

Designed to maintain regulation while delivering 7A peak current, the SiP21301 is designed for systems that have high surge current upon turn-on and very low dropout voltage requirements. The SiP21301 features programmable inrush current protection on start up, short-circuit protection, thermal shutdown, and under-voltage lockouts for safe operation of the IC and the external MOSFET.

In addition, the controller offers an adjustable output voltage, as well as fixed 1.2V and 1.5V output voltage options. The device provides a low operating current, a low standby current, and 1 percent output voltage accuracy.

The SiP21301 is available in the compact, Pb-free MSOP8 package and operates over a -40C to 125C junction temperature range. Samples and production quantities of the SiP21301 LDO controller are available with lead times of 8 to 12 weeks for initial orders.
