GSA: Q3 07chip revenue hits $72B

The Global Semiconductor Alliance (GSA) in its CYQ3 07 version of its "Global Semiconductor Fundings and Financial Report" noted that semiconductor revenue reached $71.9 billion for the period in review, with fabless and IDM revenue accounting for 20 percent and 80 percent of the total sales, respectively. The financial report also tracked pure-play foundry, intellectual property, electronic design automation, design service and back-end sectors; initial public offering data; and merger and acquisition data.

Meanwhile, North American semiconductor companies represented 52 percent of revenue, followed by Asia with 37 percent, Europe with 11 percent and India with less than one percent.

The top 15 semiconductor companies by CYQ3 2007 revenue accounted for $42.3 billion, or 59 percent of total semiconductor revenue. They are as follow:

  2. 2. Samsung Electronics: $5.45B

  3. 3. Toshiba: $3.59B

  4. 4. Texas Instruments: $3.46B

  5. 5. Hynix Semiconductor: $2.65B

  6. STMicroelectronics: $2.57B

  7. Renesas Technology: $2.04B

  8. Sony: $1.78B

  9. NXP Semiconductors: $1.71B

  10. Advanced Micro Devices: $1.63B

  11. Infineon Technologies AG: $1.59B

  12. NEC Electronics: $1.46B

  13. Freescale Semiconductor: $1.45B

  14. Micron Technology: $1.44B

  15. Qualcomm - QCT Division: $1.42B

Fifty-seven fabless companies, IDMs and semiconductor suppliers raised $777.5 million, a 14 percent q-o-q dollar amount increase and a 10 percent increase in the number of deals closed.
