Storage processors from Applied Micro Circuits Corp. have been chosen by Accusys Inc. for the latter's newest RAID controller family. The AMCC PowerPC 440SP storage processor enables Accusys' ACS-81000, ACS-82410, ACS-92000 and ACS-93000 RAID controllers to deliver unmatched performance, flexibility and the ability to meet demanding customer storage requirements for their RAID applications.

Equipped with RAID 5 and RAID 6 acceleration engines, 4GByte DDR2-667 memory controller, high bandwidth internal bus structure and multiple high speed I/O interfaces, the AMCC PowerPC 440SP allows Accusys to fully utilize the performance of the 4Gbit Fibre Channel and 3Gbit Serial Attached SCSI (SAS) connectivity.

The new Accusys RAID controllers feature dual 4Gbit FC or 3Gbit SAS uplinks and support both SAS and serial ATA2 disk arrays. They also support numerous advanced storage array features and functions including multiple RAID levels, on-line capacity provisioning, dynamic volume management, and disk health monitoring while delivering high performance and flexibility at a cost-effective price point.

"We are pleased to have been selected by Accusys to power their new advanced RAID controllers. Accusys is clearly responding to RAID solution challenges and the PowerPC 440SP is a key factor in their product differentiation," said Sam Fuller, Vice President Marketing at AMCC. "The high performance, wide range of features and flexibility of our PowerPC 440SP is helping Accusys deliver leadership solutions on a short development cycle. Customer wins of this nature clearly validate the strategic investments AMCC has made to maintain a leadership position with its storage processor products. Their proven RAID architecture and reliability are a winning combination as they continue to be selected by a growing number of storage OEMs and ODMs."

"The performance gained from the AMCC storage processor is quite significant," said Frank Hu, director of product strategy at Accusys. "AMCC's PowerPC 440SP simply empowers Accusys controllers to deliver higher performance by saturating and utilizing 100 percent of the fiber channel bandwidth. This is certainly critical with the deployment of 4Gbit FC and 3Gbit SAS solutions in the storage market. And it took only about three weeks to get the controller running. That is very fast compared to other development experiences."

"The power of the AMCC PowerPC 440SP enables all of the complex RAID operations to be performed efficiently and smoothly with very little impact on other applications," said Jemmy Lai, manager of product strategy at Accusys. "This is very important so that our customers can recognize the value of our new storage management features. They can immediately employ the ease of use and flexibility when they can manipulate various RAID configurations and allocate storage resources with little impact to normal operations."
