Fujitsu Ltd and its subsidiary Network Communications Inc. have filed a patent infringement lawsuit against Tellabs Inc. over four patents covering optical transport and wave-division multiplexing architectures.

The lawsuit filed in the U.S. District Court for Eastern Texas alleges that Tellabs' 7100 optical transport system, 5500 digital cross-connect and 6300 series of optical communication products infringed Fujitsu's patents.

Masanobu Katoh, president of Fujitsu's law and intellectual property unit, said numerous attempts had been made to seek an out-of-court agreement with Tellabs. Fujitsu said it will seek monetary damages and an injunction to prevent future infringement.

A Tellabs spokesman claimed the lawsuit was without merit.
