Industrial keyboard features new function keys

EAO has launched an upgraded version of the W.series vandal-resistant keyboard with new function keys. The mechanical, metal keyboards now offer an additional row of function keys to deliver a six-row version for public or harsh industrial environment applications including kiosks and information terminals. These keys perform the same, standard functions as any other office keyboard.

Even with an additional row of keys, the external dimensions of the new keyboard's layout are the same as the existing 5-row versions. Different language layouts are also available.

The keyboard features a brushed, stainless steel front plate that provides resistance to shock and vandalism of up to an IK09 (10J) level. It also meets the IP67 standard. The anti-pull-off keys are made from Zamak with a chrome finish and offer more than four million operations. Key markings are enhanced by the use of laser engraving to prevent wear.

If required, the keyboard can be supplied with either an integrated numeric pad or an integral trackball pointing device. The trackball is available in three different types: stainless steel, phenolic (plastic) and optical.

The optical trackball is fully sealed to the IP67 standards. A drainage feature at the rear of the unit allows for liquids to escape, which maintains internal hygiene and prevents damage from possible freezing. The only moving part in the trackball assembly is the ball itself. Being optical in design, the movement of the ball is sensed directly without the need for shafts, separate encoders and optocouplers, which makes this product virtually maintenance free.

Pricing starts at slightly over $270 per unit in small quantities.
