Elma Electronic has released an all-metal body version of its popular E27 series encoders. The metal E27 encoder is designed for more robust applications than the standard version, where bushing strength, panel nut tightening torque and side-impact resistance are key concerns.

The metal encoder is dimensionally the same as the standard offering, which shares its dimensions and footprint with most encoders from the Far East. The metal version can be a drop-in replacement for customers who want to upgrade their designs or replace other manufacturers' devices without customization, said Elma.

The E27 line features vertical orientation, 6Ncm torque integrated pushbutton, 1.5Ncm rotational torque, metal threaded bushing, internal O-ring for water ingress to IP65 and a standard D-shaped aluminum shaft. Options are available for simple, cafeteria-style selection, as well as complete customization in the areas of shafts, housings and switching schemes.

Pricing starts at $3 plus for production quantities. Delivery is four to six weeks.
