Intel Corp. will pour in more than $1 billion in India over the next three years, according to John McClure, Intel technology India director. "We have committed to spend over a billion dollars spread over next three years plus. We are focusing on a number of new initiatives for enabling easy availability of PCs and broadband Internet in India." McClure was quoted by Xinhuanet.com last week during a visit in Mumbai.
Intel is said to be collaborating with foreign and Indian computer hardware brands like Asus Technologies, HCL, Wipro and Zenith for the development of lightweight and easy-to-use Internet platforms. Intel is also working on different designs for specific market segments. It is preparing to introduce WiMAX technology in India.
"This is the best technology to bridge the PC-broadband Internet gap in India," said McClure.
