Promise Technology Inc. has released its latest generation of SuperTrak EX and FastTrak TX host-based SAS RAID controllers including the SuperTrak EX4650, SuperTrak EX8650, FastTrak TX2650, and the FastTrak TX4650.

Promise now offers seamless, end-to-end SAS solutions from the desktop to the data center with the investment protection of a unified management environment, Promise's WebPAM Pro.

"Product reliability, ease of use and performance are the bread and butter advantages of Promise's product set, and it's no different with the SuperTrak EX line of SAS and Serial ATA RAID Controller cards. Users win powerful functionality from the same RAID code found in Promise's enterprise solutions, and IT managers win ease of use by applying Promise's WebPAM PRO management interface across their storage network," said David G. Hill, principal, Mesabi Group LLC. "Promise's SAS product set extends from the datacenter to the desktop, and applies intelligent engineering to users' needs across the enterprise in both Windows and Linux environments."

Promise's SuperTrak EX offerings are 4- and 8-port internal, hardware-based SAS and Serial ATA RAID controllers using Intel's 81348 I/O processor. They support RAID 5 and RAID 6 and are designed for data protection needs based on entry-level and midrange server platforms running all popular Linux distributions as well as Windows. Target applications include disk-to-disk backup, video capture, post production and database applications. Additional models of the SuperTrak EX family are expected to ship by end of quarter.

Promise's FastTrak TX offerings are software-based SAS RAID cards using Promise's own SAS/Serial ATA ASIC, and are designed for workstation applications that require the performance, data protection and capacity of RAID 0/1 on top of today's large SAS and SATA hard drives. FastTrak TX RAID is well suited to power desktop applications like CAD, graphics and data acquisition applications.

Both families of SAS RAID controllers support the PCIe host interface and both SAS and Serial ATA II hard drives.

SuperTrak EX SAS RAID controllers complement Promise's currently shipping VTrak E-Class RAID storage systems which provide mission critical reliability and performance through their fully redundant design and dual RAID and JBOD controller implementations.

"Our end-to-end offerings are very attractive to OEMs and system integrators. A single code base and a unified management interface across the SuperTrak and VTrak product sets make Promise RAID solutions easy to integrate and support. Our channel customers and end-users value the single source reliability they get in a RAID solution that has been tested in the field from the desktop to the datacenter," said Sam Sirisena, senior VP of sales and marketing, and general manager, advanced storage group, Promise Technology.
