NEC to work on PMICs for mobile Internet devices

NEC Electronics Corp. and its U.S. subsidiary NEC Electronics America Inc. have teamed up with Intel Corp. to develop a power management IC (PMIC) solution optimized for mobile Internet devices (MIDs). The integrated PMIC solution will combine power management, logic, audio and communications functions. Initial samples of NEC's PMICs will b available by Q3.

"Mobile Internet devices is an emerging category and represents an exciting growth opportunity for the industry," said Pankaj Kedia, director of global ecosystem programs in the ultra mobility group at Intel. "NEC Electronics' expertise in highly integrated power management solutions and Intel's low-power technologies, will enable smaller, thinner, sleeker MIDs with great battery life for the consumer."
