Applied Micro Circuits Corp. announced that QLogic Corp. has selected AMCC's PowerPC 440SP storage processor for QLogic's new SANbox 6140 Intelligent Storage Routers.
The SANbox 6140 provides low-cost storage area network (SAN) connectivity services for the entire enterprise with performance to support up to 512 servers and wizard-based configuration.
The PowerPC 440SP storage processor enables the new storage routers to deliver performance and flexibility for SAN connectivity by routing standard Ethernet, via iSCSI, to a Fibre Channel controller for simultaneous storage access from Fibre Channel and Ethernet-based networks. The processor features multiple PCI-X version 2.0 interfaces, on-chip double data rate (DDR I/DDR II) SDRAM controller, a high-bandwidth internal crossbar bus structure and an optional RAID acceleration engine.
