Rx Networks Inc. has announced that it has started cooperation in the area of assisted GPS (A-GPS) with STMicroelectronics. The companies are developing a modular extended ephemeris solution, based on Rx Networks GPStream technology, and optimized for STMicroelectronics' GPS chipset portfolio. The solution targets both network connected devices and connectionless devices. Initially designed for personal navigation devices, the solution has evolved into one that is suitable for mobile phone applications, thanks to its full compliance with telecommunication requirements.

The solution set provides Secure User Plane Location compliance, autonomous extended ephemeris for connectionless devices, and a highly compressed, lossless, extended ephemeris solution for devices that have network connectivity.

The connectionless operation enables standalone GPS receivers to reduce time to first fix and maintain high initial fix accuracy by predicting satellite orbits. The network operation offers longer predicts, better accuracy and satellite health features. Both modes integrate SUPL features, providing an industry-wide reliable standard.
