AMD deal to rev up IC industry in Shandong, China

Advanced Micro Devices Inc. has signed a memorandum of understanding with Shandong Provincial Government for the development of an IC industry in the province.

The ChinaTechNews reported that AMD and the Shandong government will cooperate on technology exchange, talent training, industry application solution development, IC design and chip development.

According to the MOU, AMD will work with enterprises and technological parks in Shandong to explore methods of setting up technology innovation centers, embedded software and solution design centers. AMD will also look in to possible cooperation on embedded X86 chips to help the province promote its IC design, software platform construction and the development and production of low-cost computer chips. AMD is also expected to allot an estimated $139,000 investment in Shandong University and Ocean University of China.

Both parties have not disclosed which companies in the Shandong province will be involved in the cooperation.
