French electronics design and manufacturing services group TES is increasing its embedded hardware, software and system design team in India from the current 50 engineers to over 100 in over the next six months.

The expanded team will focus on areas such as IP STBs, multimedia technologies and short range wireless applications, including Bluetooth and RFID.

As part of the strategy, TES India will become a more integral part of the IP development team at TES. The Indian group is also relocating to new facilities in Bengaluru that include a hardware lab.

The move follows the sale late last year by TES of its Indian IC design group, originally known as Purple Vision, to Mindtree Consulting Ltd, a software and design services company headquartered at Bengaluru.

TES has appointed K. P. Jagadeesh as head of TES India, to direct and lead the expansion. He has been the head of sales at TES India for the past three years and had previously worked at companies such as Memec, GE Thermometrics and Center for Development of Telematics.

The French group entered India in 2005 with the acquisition of Purple Vision Technologies. The Indian subsidiary had grown to over 200 engineers by the end of 2007 before the divestment of the VLSI division to Mindtree.
