MIPS Technologies Inc. and NXP Semiconductors have extended their strategic relationship to offer HDMI-based IP solutions for digital home applications, including high-definition DTVs and display units, A/V receivers and STBs.

Under the terms of the agreement, MIPS will license NXP's advanced HDMI receive technology, which is currently used in the company's DTV ICs. This allows MIPS to further develop and offer HDMI receive IP solutions in advanced geometries for integration onto SoCs as part of the analog business group's HDMI product portfolio. Additionally, NXP may use the HDMI receive IP solutions from MIPS to further develop its future DTV SoC product line. The agreement also offers rights under NXP's patent portfolio.

"Over the years, MIPS Technologies has enjoyed a long and successful collaboration with NXP, teaming to deliver innovative SoC designs for the digital living room-where both companies have achieved tremendous success," said Mark Tyndall, VP of business development and corporate relations at MIPS.
