The India Semiconductor Association (ISA) and Semiconductor Equipment and Materials International (SEMI) have forged a partnership to promote semiconductor and photovoltaic manufacturing in India.

SEMI officials visited India twice in 2006 to study how semiconductor equipment companies could work more closely with Indian design firms. During the visits, SEMI also studied how designs services and product engineering could be outsourced to Indian companies.

The $13 billion global solar photovoltaics market is expected to grow to $40 billion over the next several years. SEMI's Photovoltaic Group is seeking to reduce the cost of manufacturing solar components.
