Maxim Integrated Products Inc. has rolled out a single-conversion, hybrid (analog and digital) TV tuner that integrates a tracking filter, RF and IF variable-gain amplifiers, and voltage-controlled oscillators. The MAX3541 device consumes only 760mW from a single +3.3V supply.

Unlike dual-conversion canned tuner solutions, the MAX3541 employs a single-conversion architecture. It requires only one external SAW filter, a crystal and a few discrete components in order to complete the solution, thus providing a cost-competitive alternative to canned tuners.

The MAX3541 has a standard, 36MHz IF output for DVB-T, PAL, and SECAM applications that require both analog and digital reception. Consequently, it is suitable for stationary and automotive TVs, as well as STBs.

The MAX3541 is fully specified over the -40C to +85C extended industrial temperature range and is available in a 7mm x 7mm, 48-pin flip-chip (fcLGA) package.

Prices start at $5 for orders of 1000 and more units. An evaluation kit and reference designs are available.

Maxim is one of the exhibitors in the upcoming IIC-China 2008.
