O2Micro International Ltd was issued three claims under U.S. patent number 7,268,520 for its sense amplifier for wake-up charging current architecture. O2Micro is a supplier of innovative power management, and security components and systems.

"O2Micro's sense amplifier invention is the answer to recharging deeply discharged batteries," commented Laszlo Lipcsei, O2Micro VP.

How it works
This patented sense amplifier architecture detects deeply discharged batteries, and begins recharging with a small "wake-up" current to avoid stressing the battery initially. Once the battery reaches a predefined threshold level, a larger charging current can safely be provided to the battery. There are a variety of electronic devices that use rechargeable batteries, such as notebook computers, portable phones, PDAs, and other portable and non-portable applications.
