The consultation period on the proposed creation of a unified carrier license (UCL) in Hong Kong will be extended by two weeks, according to an announcement by Hong Kong's Commerce and Economic Development Bureau (CEDB). The period of consultation on the proposed licensing framework for a UCL by the Office of the Telecommunications Authority will also be extended by the same period.

The extension of the consultation period will give more time for the concerned parties to prepare their submissions in response to the industry's request.

Hong Kong launched a two-month consultation in December 2007 to seek public views on the proposals regarding the creation of the new UCL. The consultation paper issued by CEDB sets out the proposals to introduce a UCL covering the general conditions, period of validity and fee structure.
