VMEbus SBCs tout max I/O for embedded computing

New single board computers (SBCs) have been announced by GE Fanuc Intelligent Platforms to meet the increasing importance of I/O connectivity in demanding defense applications for embedded computing.

The V7768 and V7769 6U VMEbus SBCs extend the company's VME64 roadmap and provide evidence of the company's commitment to supporting the latest Intel processors and mobile chipsets. Both SBCs offer the Intel Core2 Duo processor operating at 2.16GHz and the Mobile Intel 945GME Express Chipset. The dual slot V7769, which provides dual Serial-Attached SCSI connectors on the front panel, can optionally be configured with an on-board 2.5-inch serial ATA hard drive. It features three PCI-X PMC slots, allowing for maximum user-defined connectivity. The single slot V7768 can also be expanded via the PMC237 mezzanine board to provide legacy PMC functionality.

Leveraging Intel
The V7768 and V7769 are the first products from GE Fanuc Intelligent Platforms to leverage the power of Intel's dual core architecture in conjunction with the Universe II PCI-to-VME bridge from Tundra Semiconductor. This provides an easy, software-compatible upgrade path for existing users of the VME64-based V7750, V7751, V7805, and V7851.

Up to 4Mbytes of Level 2 cache and up to 2Gbytes of DDR2 SDRAM are provided by each board, as are two GbE ports via the front panel. Two serial ATA ports, two serial ports, four USB 2.0 ports and PS/2 mouse/keyboard ports are also standard. Operating system support is provided for Windows XP, Windows Vista, VxWorks and Linux.
