In an effort to boost its software and connected TV strategies, Trident Microsystems Inc. has acquired Beijing Tiside Electronics Design Co Ltd, which provides cross-platform software that allows multimedia applications to run on devices in the digital living room such as STB or DTV sets. For Trident, the acquisition strengthens its capability to provide a connected TV offering by adding a tested software suite that includes drivers, middleware, libraries and applications for use with its chip products.

Trident acquired Tiside, a 36-person privately held company located in Beijing, for approximately $1.9 million in cash.

"Capabilities such as those acquired from Tiside are expected to provide substantial differentiation to Trident-enabled TV, as devices in the digital living room and the Internet continue to converge," said Sylvia Summers, CEO and president of Trident. "We offer our customers a time-to-market advantage because our tested software suite can shorten the product introduction cycle, reduce R&D cost and increase product quality."
