Broadcom, Coship to debut HD STBs in China

Broadcom Corp. and Coship Electronics Co. Ltd are collaborating to deliver the first commercial high-definition (HD) STBs for China in time for the 2008 Beijing Olympics. Coship will be using Broadcom's BCM7403 STB SoC in its two latest STB models.

The BCM7403 is an HD cable, satellite and IP STB digital video recorder (DVR) solution offering integrated AVC H.264/MPEG-4 Part 10, MPEG-2, DivX, MPEG-4 Part 2 SD SP/ASP, and VC-1 video decoding technology. It combines a data transport processor, HD AVC/MPEG-2/MPEG-4/ DivX/VC-1 video decoder, advanced-audio decoder, 2D graphics processing, high-quality video scaling and motion adaptive de-interlacing, six video DACs, stereo high-fidelity audio DACs, a MIPS32/MIPS16e CPU and a peripheral control unit providing a variety of STB control functions.

Coship's STBs promise advanced HD viewing, full 1,080p support, improved picture quality, personal video recording (PVR) functionality, interactive servicessuch as video-on-demand and pay-per-viewand a completely new video and audio experience.
