IAR starter kit rolls for Freescale ColdFire
Keywords:ColdFire? starter kit? MCU?

IAR Systems has launched the IAR KickStart Kit that provides everything that a developer needs to begin developing a system on a Freescale Semiconductor ColdFire MCU, straight from the box. IAR Embedded Workbench for ColdFire is also being upgraded to Version 1.20.
The kit includes an MCF52223-SK evaluation board, a limited edition of the newly released IAR Embedded Workbench V1.20 for ColdFire, IAR J-Link for ColdFire BDM26 debug probe, and a 20-state evaluation edition of IAR visualSTATE.
The KickStart edition included in the kit has a size limitation on compiled code of 16Kbyte for a V1 core and 32Kbyte for a V2 or V3 core. In addition to this and the full version of IAR Embedded Workbench for ColdFire, a new baseline edition has also been introduced: this has a size limitation on compiled code of 64Kbyte for a V1 core and 128Kbyte for a V2 core. A BDM26 cable and a USB cable are also included in the kit.
The development board in IAR KickStart Kit for ColdFire integrates a Freescale MCF52223 MCU and features a 2x16 character LCD screen, 16 LEDs, 4 buttons (GPIO) and PWM to buzzer. External connections JTAG-BDM26 connector; I?C routed to header pins; 3 UART connectors (DB9); SPI routed to header pins; USB connector (OTG/host jumper selectable) and a SD/MMC socket. DC power is supplied to the board either via an external power connector or through IAR J-Link, selectable using a jumper. An ADC provides output to a potentiometer, and the board also incorporates a power supply LED indicator and a reset button, as well as a user prototyping area. The board is fully RoHS compliant.
Version 1.20
The Embedded Workbench V1.20 for Freescale ColdFire is an integrated C/C++ development environment for building and debugging embedded applications. It provides full support for devices with ColdFire V1, V2 and V3 cores and generates very compact and efficient code. The latest version includes a new data model for near relative addressing, additional C-SPY debugger support for P&E microcomputer Cyclone Pro and Cyclone Max, Flash loader drivers, and support for the most recent ColdFire devices.
