Applied Micro Circuits Corp. (AMCC) is expanding the capacity of its development teams by establishing a design center in Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam. The Vietnam Design Center will focus on IC design, software development as well as expanding AMCC's capability in the area of software integration.

"AMCC has a strong and growing presence in Asia Pacific, with many important partners, vendors and customers so Asia Pacific was always at the top of our list of possible locations for our newest design center," said Vu Nguyen, president of AMCC Vietnam and VP of engineering for AMCC. "Vietnam attracted us with its commitment to building a skilled and educated workforce from which companies like ours can recruit and cultivate world-class engineers. We were particularly impressed by the close relationship between Vietnam's universities and its business enterprises. We believe Vietnam's greatest strength is its dedication to education and its openness to learning and adopting new ways to partner with and support companies such as ours."

AMCC also announced a partnership with Mentor Graphics Corp. to engage with major Vietnamese universities, including Vietnam National University of Ho Chi Minh and University of Technology of Ho Chi Minh, to provide and support hardware laboratories that will provide leadership equipment and high-speed product evaluation platforms to students to develop their expertise on complex and advanced technologies.
