Atmel Corp. and TimeSys jointly offer embedded Linux support for Atmel's ARM9-based AT91CAP9 customizable MCU. For rapid design validation, TimeSys is offering a free Board Support Package (BSP) for the CAP9 based on the 2.6.23 kernel. Additionally, the free BSP can be upgraded to a full LinuxLink subscription.

According to the companies, the free BSP enables application developers to validate Linux rapidly on the AT91CAP9A development board that includes an FPGA for emulation of the CAP Metal Programmable Block for custom logic. This BSP includes Atmel's Linux kernel and drivers, BusyBox utilities for basic commands and features, and a Linux host/cross tool chain capable of re-building the Linux kernel and the basic packages included in the BSP.
