VCSO has expanded frequency range, ultralow jitter

Vectron International has released the fifth generation of its voltage-controlled SAW oscillators (VCSOs). The VS-705 VCSO delivers new and improved features including an expanded frequency range and power management capabilities that support green initiatives.

TheVS-705 offers an expanded frequency range of 120-850MHz in a 5mm x 7.5mm x 2.5mm LCC package. Previously, frequencies between 120-500 MHz were only offered in a 9mm x 14mm x 4.5mm package and frequencies between 500-850 MHz were supported in a 5mm x 7.5mm x 2.5mm LCC package.

The VCSO is optimized for use in phase-locked loop (PLL) circuits that require excellent jitter filtering and a wider tuning range (100ppm APR). Applications include high-speed data transmission such as Synchronous Ethernet, Fibre Channel, traditional SONET/SDH optical networking and high-clock-rate base stations. The VSCO also meets the needs of the latest generation of DACs and ADCs, which require a very clean reference signal.

The VS-705 is said to offer the lowest overall jitter noise in its class. Unlike the latest digital phase-locked loop (DPLL) technologies, which at a minimum have two times the phase jitter as well as spurious modes, the VS-705 uses a high Q SAW design, which results in spurious free phase jitter of - Gina Roos
