Taiyo Yuden claims 'smallest' wirewound power inductors

Keywords:wirewound power inductor? DC/DC? battery-powered electronics?

A series of high-current, wirewound power inductors in an EIA 0603 case size has been introduced by Taiyo Yuden (U.S.A.) Inc. as the smallest power inductors available. The BRC1608 is 70 percent smaller than the company's previous generation. The BRC1608 devices measure 1.6mm x 0.8mm x 0.8mm (all dimensions 0.2mm). The new series is well-suited for DC/DC converter choke coil applications in digital cameras, cellphones, MP3 players and other battery-powered electronic devices.

Bridging the gap between wirewound performance and multilayer manufacturability, these BRIC1608 devices offer the small size of multilayer types, which offer greater economies of scale, with the high bias characteristics of wirewound devices. In addition, the eight models in the BRC1608 series are said to offer an excellent combination of low DC resistance of 0.06-0.55? high inductance of 0.2-2.2?H; and high current ratings of 0.98-0.28A.

Pricing is at 20 cents each. They are available in volume production quantities. Delivery is two weeks ARO.
