FPC connector

Omron Corp. has announced plans to release an ultraslim 0.6mm connector for flexible printed circuits (FPCs).

The XF3A has an ultralow profile, with a pitch of 0.3mm, a height of 0.6mm and a depth of 3.8mm (when locked), representing a 33 percent reduction compared to previous Omron models. When it is released, the XF3A will be the industry's slimmest commercially available FPC connector with a backlock mechanism, said the company.

FPC connectors are used in a wide range of applications, including mobile devices such as phones, MP3 players and notebook PCs. Omron developed the XF3A in response to increased demand for slimmer FPC connectors with backlock mechanisms, which support the development of thinner devices.

Moreover, the use of LCP resin in molded parts eliminates the need for halogen in the design.

The device has a rated current of 0.2A AC/DC and a rated voltage of 50V AC/DC. It also offers a contact resistance of 80m max. (at 20mV max., 100mA max.), insulation resistance of 100M min. (at 250Vdc) and insertion tolerance of 20x. Ambient operating temperature is -30C to 85C (with no icing or condensation).
