Maxim Integrated Products has introduced the MAX4928A/MAX4928B ultrahigh-speed, 1:2 or 2:1, DisplayPort/PCIe passive switches. These devices use n-channel switches to route differential signals between a graphics and memory controller hub (GMCH) and either a PCIe 2.0 socket or DisplayPort connector. Each device features six pairs of bidirectional, dpdt switches, thus allowing a single device to perform all switching. Maintaining a high level of signal integrity, the MAX4928A/MAX4928B feature very low return loss (>12.5dB at 2.5Ghz) to support data rates of greater than 5Gbps. These devices meet PCIe 2.0 specifications and the new VESA standards for DisplayPort applications, thus making them suitable for desktop and notebook PCs.

The MAX4928A is designed for the ATX motherboard form factor, while the MAX4928B is intended for the BTX form factor. Both devices operate from a single 3.3V supply, and are fully specified over the -40C to 85C extended temperature range. They are available in an industry-standard, 5mm x 11mm, 56-pin TQFN package. Prices start at $3 (1,000-up, FOB USA).
