Wisair has announced its Wireless USB solution was approved for distribution in Korea by the Radio Research Laboratory (RRL), the certification body under the Korean Ministry of Information and Communication (MIC). Together with regulatory approvals already received in the U.S., Japan and Europe, Wisair's WSR601 chip now enables Wireless USB global deployments with a single SKU (stock-keeping unit) model.

"We are excited to be the first Wireless USB supplier to meet the UWB Korean regulation," said David Yaish, Wisair CEO. "On top of this, we understand that our OEM customers need to distribute a single hardware product to customers worldwide, regardless of the differences in regulatory emission requirements in different regions. Thus, we have designed our chip to meet these requirements from the outset."

The Wisair solution approved for operation in Korea includes a Wireless USB adapter, and is based on the Wisair WSR601 CMOS single chip. Wisair's WSR601 technology is currently in production with several ODM partners with shipments to end consumers expected towards the end of this quarter.

"This is a promising step toward the worldwide adoption of Wireless USB. Korea is an increasingly important Asian market where consumer demand for wireless-enabled mobile devices continues to surge," said Fiona Thomson, senior research analyst with IMS Research. "As the first Wireless USB technology is now approved for distribution in Korea, it will be exciting to watch the rate of adoption of this important technology."

Wisair offers a range of Wireless USB reference designs implementing native wireless USB and wire adapter protocols. Using either USB or SDIO interfaces, these solutions enable a range of embedded and aftermarket Wireless USB products and offer the best combination of performance, price and power consumption.
