Gain block amp needs no external matching parts

WJ Communications Inc. has introduced the WJA1021, the latest addition to the WJA family of +5V active bias InGaP HBT gain block amplifiers.

The WJA1021 5V gain block amplifier does not require any external matching components and offers +37dBm OIP3 at 2GHz in a SOT-89 package. It is well suited for general-purpose high-linearity applications within the 50MHz to 4000MHz frequency range. With this, the WJA family has a wider selection of cascadable gain blocks offering a variety of performances that complement different gains, OIP3 and Icc levels.

At 1.9GHz, the WJA1021 typically provides 17.5dB gain, +37.5dBm OIP3, and +19dBm P1dB, drawing 90mA current from a 5V supply. The amplifier can also be used at the 900MHz cellular band with 18.5dB gain, +40dBm OIP3, and +20dBm P1dB. It consists of Darlington-pair amplifiers using a high reliability InGaP/GaAs HBT process technology, and internally can be matched to 50ohm. An internal active bias is designed to enable stable performance over temperature and allow operation directly from a +5V supply voltage. DC blocking/bypass capacitors and a bias inductor are needed for operation.

The WJA1021 is housed in a Pb-free/green/RoHS-compliant industry-standard SOT-89 SMT package using a NiPdAu plating to eliminate the possibility of tin whiskering. It is ideal for current and next-generation wireless infrastructure applications requiring high linearity: multicarrier GSM, CDMA, W-CDMA, WiBro, and WiMAX.
