Beefing up efforts in power management, Texas Instruments Inc. has acquired Irish power supply reference design provider Commergy Technologies Ltd. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

The acquisition allows TI to expand its focus on improving energy efficiency in designs, specifically in areas of AC adapters and high-density computing and server systems.

Commergy provides standard and customized reference designs for applications in the notebook, PC, server and communications markets. The Irish firm develops high-efficiency power supply solutions that meet and exceed the latest Energy Star and Climate Savers Computing Initiative recommendations for PCs.

In addition, Commergy has expertise in design areas such as planar magnetics, power factor correction, power topology design, thermal management, EMC design and high-power density design.

"Adding Commergy's products and expertise in power conversion technology gives us a tremendous advantage when solving our customers' complex energy requirements and critical power design challenges," said Art George, senior VP for TI's high performance analog division, in a statement.
