Sharp Microelectronics of the Americas (SMA) has announced the availability of two rugged industrial TFT-LCD panels at SID 2008. The 5.7-inch and 8.4-inch displays meet Sharp's Strong 2 technology criteria for industrial displays, defining stringent standards for brightness, contrast, temperature range, shock and vibration. These requirements include a minimum high brightness of 400nits, a standard high contrast ratio of 600:1, operation in extreme temperatures ranging from -30 to 80C and certifications of 60G to 70G shock and 1.5G to 2G vibration.

The 5.7-inch (LQ057V3DG02) and 8.4-inch (LQ084V3DG01) TFT-LCDs VGA panel displays are loaded with features that deliver rich graphics and information content for a variety of applications including point-of-purchase screens, VoIP products, medical equipment, and test and measurement equipment. An anti-glare polarizing filter improves visibility in bright ambient light conditions, and a wide viewing angle provides for optimal usability in dynamic, real-world industrial settings.

The 5.7-inch LQ057V3DG02 is a light, compact module that features chip-on-glass technology. It offers a 640 x 480pixel format and an 18x LED backlighting system that provides high-brightness of 400nits. The 8.4-inch LQ084V3DG01 module provides a 640 x 480pixel format and delivers 400nits of brightness from a long-life 2x CCFL backlighting system.

One-piece sample pricing for the Strong 2 industrial display products are as follows: $175 for the LQ057V3DG02 and $300 for the LQ084V3DG01.
