LCDs address commercial, military requirements

White Electronic Designs Corp. (WEDC) has expanded its family of enhanced LCD displays with the introduction of three standard displays aimed at a variety of applications. Announced at SID 2008, the new 8.4-inch and 10.4-inch displays are part of the company's new standard AMLCD product suite that meets both commercial and military requirements for sunlight readability and maximum viewability, but also provides night-vision compatibility for applications such as transportation display instruments. Commercial applications include tablet PCs and medical patient care monitors.

The two high-performance 8.4-inch enhanced displays—the ENH084SL3-550 (550-nit SVGA model) and the ENH084XL3-500 (500-nit XGA model)—incorporate high efficiency optical films to achieve increases of 35 percent (SVGA) and 25 percent (XGA) respectively over the manufacturer's stock luminance. Each model is available with index matching anti-reflection coatings in two surface treatments—M/Clear (glossy) or IM/110 (10 percent diffusion). These products are suitable for instrumentation, transportation and rugged tablet PC applications. Touch sensor options also are available.

The ENH104XLM-170 10.4-inch color TFT LCD incorporates the company's proprietary Max-Vu process to increase the contrast and optical performance of the stock display. The enhancement of the standard BOE Hydis HT10X21-311 color active matrix LCD module is said to result in superior viewability and increased environmental robustness. The ENH104XLM-170 comes with a 1.1mm AR/AG cover glass.

In a quantity of 100, the 8.4-inch SL3 is priced at $304; the 8.4-inch XL3 at $432; and the 10.4-inch XLM at $246. The devices are all available now in the U.S.
