Serial LCD Nexus with IR repeater

Keywords:PSoC Designer application note? IR repeater? LCD Nexus?

An LCD display is a good addition to a product but monopolizes an entire port of the PSoC device. In applications where pin resources are limited, a single TX8 block and a single pin is used to control display of text. This is done on a parallel LCD using this application note (programmed to a separate PSoC) by Chris Paiano from Cypress Semiconductor. A series of functions are written to facilitate easy control of the LCD serially through the Nexus PSoC and are listed at the end of this note for direct copy and pasting into the project. Additionally, a Palm OS program (file PalmLCD-Install.prc?) is written to emulate the function of a 4x20 parallel LCD display controlled by the Serial LCD Nexus PSoC and communicates via standard 19.2Kbps IR from a single PSoC output pin. Every command or character the Nexus receives also repeats out the IR port. Effectively, this device is used as an RS-232 to IR converter/repeater.
