Hints on wireless USB via UWB tests

The initial public awareness of UWB came about in February 2002 when the U.S. Federal Communications Commission allocated 7.5GHz of spectrum3.1-10.6GHzfor use by UWB devices, enabling this previously classified military technology to be commercialized as had happened with CDMA years before.

The unique ability of UWB signaling to operate at the noise floor enables UWB devices to peacefully co-exist and share spectrum with traditional wireless services.

The low transmit power authorized by the FCC curtailed the range of UWB links to about 10m, limiting this technology to wireless personal area networking applications. This range is not a fundamental limitation of UWB technology itself. If transmit power limits were increased, the range of UWB would increase as well.
