Femtocells will hit the shops by Christmas holidays, according to a small but growing number of global operators at the Femtocells Europe conference series 2008.

Femtocellsrouter sized, sophisticated mobile basestationsoffer the promise of five bars of coverage, ultrafast data rates and new content services delivery to mobile phone throughout the home. No wonder there is frantic activity in the industry to get the right product in the market at the right price with the right QoS.

"With increasing numbers of global operators now with ongoing trials or about to trial femtocells for both home and enterprise use, there can be no doubt that this technology has caught the imagination of the cellular and broadband industry," said Simon Saunders, chairman of the Femto Forum. "Deployments over the next few months will, of course, determine the appetite of the consumer for this key enabling technology and attention will undoubtedly shift to the services facilitated by these revolutionary home access points."

Major OEM sponsors for the event include Nokia Siemens Networks, Ericsson, Qualcomm, Alcatel-Lucent, Huawei, ZTE, Motorola, NEC, Samsung. With more than 500 delegates and 40 exhibitors, the hosted by Avren Events, will have a series of shows in London, Bangkok and Dallas throughout the year.
