With an 8.5bit resolution, the AS5134 can recognize 360 positions within one 360 turn and is accessible with either a serial or a pulse-width modulation interface. In addition, it has three differently programmable incremental outputs available, one of which delivers a three-phase commutation signal for brushless DC motors (BLDC). Another special feature is the programmability of 1 to 6 pole pairs. The AS5134 also provides a "power saving mode" with a power consumption of less than 1.5mA and a fast start-up time to normal operation of less than 250?s.
Features of the AS5134 including user-specific zero programming, a diagnostic function for correct positioning of the magnet, or the ability to recognize interruptions of the power supply are already standard in austriamicrosystems' entire encoder product family. The AS5134 additionally offers a "daisy chain" mode to read position data serially over a two-wire bus.
"The proportion of BLDC in automotive propulsion technology as well as in the industrial sector is increasing rapidly because the benefits of BLDC are as numerous as convincing. In addition to higher efficiency and longer service life, drives can be designed offering higher precision, better dynamic properties and more flexibility. The AS5134 was specifically developed to improve the performance of these BLDC motors," says Berhard Czar, marketing director automotive at austriamicrosystems.
With its wide ambient temperature range of -40C to 150C, the AS5134 requires no additional temperature compensation and calibration. The AS5134 is available in a lead-free SSOP-20 package.
