CHL to set up 3G base stations in Shanghai

China Mobile (CHL) Shanghai will start building 1,500 TD-SCDMA base stations in Shanghai this month, according to a report citing a company representative.

China Mobile plans to bring the total number of TD-SCDMA base stations in Shanghai to 3,000 by yearend to make the city fully covered by 3G signal. Meanwhile, Shanghai Mobile will advance its wireless broadband indexapart from realizing a complete coverage of 2.75G network over the city and building over 3,000 3G base stations, it will push forward the city's wireless construction with such advanced wireless broadband technologies as Wi-Fi and HSDPA.

According to the report, China Mobile's affiliates in the Yangtze River Delta Region, including Shanghai, Zhejiang and Jiangsu, will launch a one-card-and-two-number business, enabling users to shift between two numbers without turning off or exchanging their mobile phones.

Currently, fixed phone users, mobile phone users and Internet users at the Yangtze River Delta Region accounts for 17, 18 and 19 percent, respectively, of China's total fixed phone, mobile phone and Internet users.
