Maxim Integrated Products has released the MAX4999 differential, 8:1 multiplexer for Hi-Speed USB (USB 2.0) applications. The MAX4999 is suitable for applications such as servers, RAID, mass storage and workstations.

This device switches between eight USB hosts and a single peripheral at data rates up to 480Mbit/s, enabling users to access data through the front panel of the server chassis. To enable this performance, the MAX4999 features low, 6.5? (typ) on-resistance and low, 3pF (typ) on-capacitance. Additionally, an integrated charge pump improves performance by allowing signal levels greater than the supply voltage.

To minimize power consumption, the MAX4999's enable input can be driven low to place the device in standby mode, shutting off the charge pump. In addition, the enable pins of two MAX4999s can be connected together to form a 16:1 multiplexer, while still supporting USB 2.0 data rates.

The MAX4999 operates from a single 3.3V supply, and is fully specified over the -40C to 85C extended temperature range. It is available in a small, 5mm x 5mm, 32-pin TQFN package. Prices start at $3 (1,000-up, FOB USA).
