Taiyo Yuden (U.S.A.) Inc. has introduced the NR6028 series of 6mm x 6mm x 2.8mm height (max) wirewound power inductors for DC/DC converter choke coil applications in LCD/plasma TVs and other flat panel displays (FPDs).

The 13 models in the NR6028 series offer a selection of low DC resistance (0.013-0.6), high inductance (0.9-100?H), high current ratings (0.62-6.6A) and improved performance vs. previous company models. The NR6028-100M device, for example, provides 36 percent higher rated current at 10?H inductance.

The NR6028 series broadens the company's line of 6mm x 6mm wirewound power inductors, which now includes a greater selection of maximum height dimensions. These parts include: 1.2mm (NR6012 series), 2mm (NR6020 series), 2.8mm (NR6028 series) and 4.5mm (NR6045 series) height devices.

The NR series incorporates a unique sleeveless, square-core winding that eliminates all wasted space and thickened the lead wire inside the inductor to achieve the lowest possible DC resistance, said the company. Taiyo Yuden also improved the round drum/sleeve core technology to boost current capability while reducing the device size, a feat not easily achieved with inductor technology.

The NR6028 series consists of these part numbers (includes specs).

Pricing starts at 20 cents each for samples. Devices are available now in volume production quantities; delivery is two weeks ARO.
