Agilent Technologies Inc. has announced a new 5.7Mbit/s HSUPA test capability for its W-CDMA/HSPA Test and Lab Applications, which run on the 8960 (E5515C) Wireless Communications Test Set. With the addition of the 5.7Mbit/s HSUPA test capability, Agilent claims its W-CDMA/HSPA one-box test set continues to provide the most standards-compliant RF measurements coupled with top data rate performance.

HSUPA is a 3G mobile telephony protocol in the HSPA family with uplink speeds up to 5.7Mbit/s. Also known as Enhanced Dedicated Channel (E-DCH), it is designed to extend and improve the performance of UMTS protocols by reducing latency and increasing uplink throughput. Agilent's E1963A W-CDMA/HSPA Test Application provides Radio Bearer and Frequency Division Duplex test modes and applicable 3GPP TS 34.121 HSUPA RF measurements for the latest HSUPA manufacturing and device verification. The addition of Agilent's new 5.7Mbit/s HSUPA test capability allows engineers to test now all available Category 6 HSUPA-capable mobile devices and chipsets.

Agilent's E6703E W-CDMA/HSPA Lab Application features all the capabilities of the Test Application, while also adding packet-switched (PS) data connectivity for HSDPA Category 8/E-DCH Category 6 mobile devices. Engineers designing high-speed mobile data devices and applications can now use the Wireless Communications Test Set with the new 5.7Mbit/s HSUPA PS data capability to emulate real-world test scenarios. As a result, they can find difficult design problems earlier in the design cycle and then fix them more quickly.

"This new chipset-validated, 5.7Mbit/s capability is the latest in a series of features which today make the 8960 the most stable and easy to use one-box test set for verifying high-data rate mobile performance," said Niels Fache, vice president and general manager of Agilent's mobile broadband division. "The addition of the 5.7Mbit/s HSUPA test capability reaffirms our commitment to deliver cost-effective, innovative and value-added solutions to support new and emerging communication technologies like HSPA."

The 8960 Test Set can be used for wireless device development, manufacturing and repair of all major 2G, 2.5G, 3G and 3.5G wireless technologies. It provides test solutions for mobile devices across the entire lifecycle on a single platform.

Agilent's 5.7Mbit/s HSUPA test capability for the E1963A Test Application and E6703E Lab Application will be commercially available Q4 08. The 5.7Mbit/s capability in the E1963A Test Application requires the E1963A Test Application with options, 403 HSDPA and 413 HSUPA Test Modes. Pricing for E1963A W-CDMA/HSPA Test Application is $14,800, for E1963A-403 HSDPA Test Modes is $10,400, for E1963A-413 is HSUPA Test Modes is $10,400, and E6703E W-CDMA/HSPA Lap Applications is $46,000.
