ATCA backplane adds MicroTCA interconnect

Elma Bustronic Corp. has upgraded its 5-slot AdvancedTCA (ATCA) backplane with a new shelf manager interconnect scheme. The upgraded ATCA backplane now features standard MicroTCA connectors for Elma's IPM Sentry shelf manager connections.

In addition to saving space, the connectors are widely available, and with compression mount design they are field replaceable. If damaged, the MicroTCA connector can be unscrewed from the backplane and replaced.

The 5-slot ATCA backplane features a 3x replicated Mesh topology, although a standard Full Mesh or Dual Star can be implemented. The backplane has 18 layers and is optimized for performance via signal integrity studies.

Pricing is less than $1,400 depending on volume and configuration requirements. Lead time is four to six weeks ARO.
