Carl Zeiss has purchased Pixer Technology Ltd, an Israel-based company that creates unique yield enhancement systems for photomasks in IC production. An agreement between the two companies has already been signed.

With the acquisition, Carl Zeiss seeks to gain global recognition as a provider of semiconductor equipment in the form of lithography and laser optics, particle beam systems and systems for quality assurance and process optimization. Pixer will be part of the Semiconductor Metrology Systems (SMS) Division as the transaction is expected to be finalized in Q3 08.

"Acquiring Pixer is a step toward innovation leadership in the long term and promoting our growth. In the past five years, we have reached organic growth with more than 10 percent in revenues. We aim to continue providing innovative solutions for semiconductor technology," said Hermann Gerlinger, member of the Carl Zeiss AG Board and president and CEO, Carl Zeiss.

Frank Averdung, managing director, SMS division of Carl Zeiss, said: "Pixer offers us a new breed of technical possibilities that are compatible to our existing product lines and system solutions for photomask defect analysis and repair."

"We are very excited with our partnership with Carl Zeiss. Being part of a global company with worldwide sales and service capabilities like Carl Zeiss, this will provide broad opportunities for Pixer and its customers," said Hagay Sitry, president and CEO, Pixer.
