Buzz: Qimonda, Elpida mull manufacturing JV

The Japanese memory firm recently has announced a DRAM manufacturing joint venture with China's Suzhou Venture Group (SVG). The announcement says that 61 percent of the JV shares are to be held by SVG and potential third-party investors—which could be Qimonda, among others. The Qimonda spokesperson declined to comment details of the current negotiations; however, he said "Qimonda regards this [announcement] as good news."

The Elpida-SVG JV will manufacture DRAMs using the technology jointly developed with Qimonda. "Yes, there is a connection", the Qimonda spokesperson said, adding that the German company is in continuing talks on R&D as well as on production topics.
