Intel Corp. has introduced a smaller version of its Z-P230 PATA solid-state drive (SSD).

Rugged and with no moving parts, the low-power flash-based SSD is now available in a space-saving PCIe mini-card module.

The original 40-pin ZIF version of the Intel Z-P230 PATA SSD is 4x smaller than a traditional 1.8-inch HDD and one-fourth the weight, making it a cost-effective storage solution designed to replace HDDs in netbook and nettop systems, according to Intel.

The Intel Z-P230 PATA SSD comes in 4- and 8Gbyte capacities, with a 16Gbyte version following in September.

Pricing starts at $25 for the 4Gbyte version and $45 for the 8Gbyte version in 1,000 unit quantities.

Devices are available now.
